With the introduction of Samsung Bixby – a Virtual AI assistant, the Galaxy S series devices come with a “Bixby key,” a dedicated button to bring up the Bixby assistant. However, this has changed when Samsung released Samsung Galaxy S22 and S23 series.
If you are a Galaxy S22 or S23 series user, you have seen already that your phone doesn’t have a dedicated Bixby key/button. Instead, the power key or the side key will be used to wake up Bixby.
This means, by default, when you press and hold the side key, you won’t be able to bring up the power menu anymore, this behavior has incredibly annoyed some users, and that is probably why you are here.

Once you have turned off Bixby button, restart your device by following the below steps to make sure the changes have been applied successfully:
- Press and hold the power key and volume down key together until the device starts to turn off.
That is it! Now you have successfully disabled the Bixby button from your Galaxy S22/S23. Now let’s see how you can turn off the voice wake command.
Disable Bixby Voice Wake-Up Command on Your Samsung Galaxy S22/S23
Like any other smart assistant out there, Bixby has its own wake-up command that brings up its voice assistant. As you may already know, all you have to say is “Hi, Bixby” to make it work.
So if you ask why you should disable this too, well it is completely up to you. Samsung has designed this software-based assistant to help you throughout the day. However, there are some advantages you will get when you disable the voice wake-up function of Bixby:
- You will free up your device’s battery and RAM used by the Bixby’s wake-up process.
- You won’t bring up the Bixby voice by accidental voice inputs.
It is up to you to decide whether you want to disable this function or not. This action is reversible and you can turn it on whenever you want again.
Here is how to disable Bixby’s voice wake-up function on your Galaxy S22/S23:
- Open Bixby.
- Tap on three dots at the top right corner and select Settings.
- Tap on Voice wake up.
- Turn off “Wake with Hi, Bixby.”
Once you have done that, restart your device.
