Do Not Disturb mode is a feature on smartphones that mutes all calls, alerts, and other notifications. On modern Android operating systems and custom skins (such as Samsung’s One UI), you can adjust Do Not Disturb mode settings to control what notifications are blocked and what isn’t.

In this article, you will learn how Do Not Disturb works, how you can enable it, how to configure Do Not Disturb, and how to troubleshoot if the feature doesn’t work properly on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

How Does Do Not Disturb Mode Work?

Since Do Not Disturb is a software feature, when it is enabled, your smartphone will silence all upcoming notifications, incoming calls, and other alerts such as incoming text/picture messages, social media notifications, email alerts, etc.

However, it’s important to note that alarms and timers will still function as normal even when Do Not Disturb is enabled.

How to Enable and Configure Do Not Disturb Mode on Samsung Galaxy Smartphones

Enabling Do Not Disturb on any smartphone is easy to do. However, configuring its settings can vary depending on the smartphone model.

Since we are mainly focusing on Samsung Galaxy smartphone, we will explain to you how you can enable and configure Do Not Disturb on your Galaxy smartphone. Let’s start with how to enable the feature first.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on “Notifications”.
  3. Tap on “Do Not Disturb”.
  4. Toggle the switch to “ON”.

Now you know how to enable Do Not Disturb. Then it is time to learn the configurations in its settings.

Do Not Disturb has 4 main settings to configure it.

  1. For How long.
  2. Schedule.
  3. Allowed during Do Not Disturb.
  4. Hide notifications.

Now let’s talk about each setting and how you can configure it.

01: For how long

This option allows you to adjust the time of Do Not Disturb is enabled. You have 3 options:

  • Until I turn it off: Do Not Disturb will be turned on until you turn it off manually.
  • Hour: you can select how many hours Do Not Disturb needs to be turned on).
  • Ask every time: You will be asked each time you turn on Do Not Disturb for how long the feature needs to be turned on.

02: Schedule

You can schedule when Do Not Disturb needs to be turned on and when it needs to turn off automatically.

You can add multiple schedules here. It would be useful if you want to set one for every night, every meeting time, etc.

03: Allowed during Do Not Disturb

Here you can control: Calls and messsages, App notifications, Alarms, and sounds that need to be excluded while Do Not Disturb is turned on.

For example, you can let incoming calls ring your smartphone when Do Not Disturb is turned on. Or you can set up from which person you would like to get message notifications while Do Not Disturb is turned on. The configurations are flexible and you can adjust it as you want.

04: Hide notifications

By default, when Do Not Disturb is turned on, you will not hear any notification sound or you won’t see your phone’s screen light up when there is a notification or any other alerts. However, you can still wake up your phone’s screen and see the notifications.

If you don’t want that to happen, then you can hide certain or all the notifications appearing on your screen when Do Not Disturb is turned on. Then when you turn off Do Not Disturb, those notifications will start to appear on the notification panel.
