Use solutions in this guide to fix the following issues on your Samsung Galaxy S24/S24+/S24 Ultra smartphone:

  • Certain apps do not update
  • Apps on Google Play Store do not update
  • Apps on Samsung Galaxy App Store do not update

Turn Off “App Protection”

App protection is a feature that prevent unauthorized access and ensures that your apps and data are safeguarded against security threats. Although we recommend enabling this feature, it might prevent updates from being applied.

Temporary turn off “App protection” to update your apps.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Security and privacy.
  3. Select App security > App protection.
  4. Tap on 3 dots at the top right corner of the screen.
  5. Select and toggle off App protection Settings.

Clear Cache of Google Play Store or Galaxy App Store

Note: Clearing cache data will not affect your settings on apps and your personal data.

Steps for Google Play Store:

  1. Open Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Google Play Store.
  3. Select Storage > Clear Cache.

Steps for Galaxy App Store:

  1. Open Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap Galaxy Store.
  3. Select Storage > Clear Cache.

Try Updating the App(s) in Safe Mode

Safe Mode disables third-party apps and services that could interfere with app updates. Follow the steps below to boot your phone into Safe mode, update apps, and reboot to its normal mode.

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Hold the Power button until the Samsung logo appears, then press and hold the Volume Down button until the device boots up.
  3. Open the app store and try updating the apps.

If the apps update successfully, consider uninstalling any recently installed apps that might be causing conflicts.

Steps to Exit Safe Mode:

  1. Restart your device normally by holding the Power button and tapping Restart.

Reinstall the App

Reinstalling can fix app update issues by removing corrupted files. However, any data stored within the app and its settings will be lost after the update.

  1. Open Google Play Store or Galaxy App Store.
  2. Search for the app that won’t update.
  3. Tap Uninstall and then Install again.

Perform a Software Update

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Software Update.
  3. Tap Download and Install.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

If none of the above steps cover your issue, try the following steps:

  1. Clear system cache:
    • Turn off your phone.
    • Plug the charger in.
    • Press and hold the power button + volume up button to enter the recovery mode.
    • Use the volume keys to select the “Wipe cache partition” option and press the power key.
    • Confirm the selection.
    • Once the process is completed, you will see the recovery menu again. Select “Reboot system now” and press the power key to exit recovery mode.
  2. Do a factory data reset (Warning: Factory data reset erases all your personal data. Take a backup before proceeding):
    • Open Settings app.
    • Go to General management.
    • Tap on Reset.
    • Select Factory data reset.
    • Confirm.
