Notice: This problem has been around since 2024 February, and we still haven’t found a definitive solution to it. However, some users have reported success in recovering missing photos in the Gallery app by following these steps.

Follow the steps in this guide to fix the following problems on your Samsung Galaxy S24/S24 Plus/S24 Fe/S24 Ultra:

  1. Photos and videos captured using the official Samsung Camera app are not stored directly in local storage.

  3. A large number of Photos or videos (over 100), are missing from the Gallery or phone.

If the Camera Do Not Save Photos/Videos

  2. go to Apps.
  3. Select the Camera app.
  4. Tap on Permissions.
  5. Make sure file permissions are given for the app to save photos/videos into device storage.
  1. Open the Settings app.

    • Use the volume keys to select the “Wipe cache partition” option and press the power key.
    • Confirm the selection.
    • Once the process is completed, you will see the recovery menu again. Select “Reboot system now” and press the power key to exit recovery mode.
  2. Do a factory data reset (Warning: Factory data reset erases all your personal data. Take a backup before proceeding):
    • Open Settings app.
    • Go to General management.
    • Tap on Reset.
    • Select Factory data reset.
    • Confirm.

Even if the images are no longer visible in the Gallery, the original files may still be found in the DCIM folder. This folder is generally located within the Media or Pictures directory at the root of your phone’s storage.

  1. Open File Manager.
  2. Go to Pictures/Photos/Camera folder and check for the DCIM folder.
  3. Alternatively, you can search for the DCIM folder using the search feature in File manager.

If you were able to find the missing images or videos in the DCIM folder, you will need to clear the Gallery app cache to make them reappear in the Gallery. Please note that clearing the Gallery app cache will not delete any of your personal data.:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps.
  3. Select Gallery app.
  4. Tap on Storage.
  5. Tap on Clear cache.
  6. Confirm.

If you have previously set up a backup on your phone, you can check it for any missing photos or videos. Typically, backups are stored in your Samsung Cloud or Google Drive account. To access the backup folder, you may need to log in with your email and password.
