Fix Invalid Destination Address on Samsung S20/S21/S22 Ultra

Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr

Do you get the “Invalid destination address” error when sending an MMS by using your Samsung Galaxy S20/S21, or S22 Ultra, to someone?

If you use the default messaging app on your Galaxy smartphone to send MMS, and get this error message, this could mean three things;

  1. There is a problem with your Galaxy smartphone
  2. There is a problem with your network (provider)
  3. The other end (the person you are trying to send the message to) is having issues receiving MMS messages

The last one is out of your hand. However, the first two issues can be almost fixable.

So in this guide, we will show you the solutions that you can try to resolve the “Invalid destination address” issue on your Galaxy smartphone, regardless of your network provider (Verizon, T-mobile, or any carrier)

Note

Even though we haven’t tested the solution with other models of Samsung Galaxy, this guide can also apply to other Galaxy devices with this issue. Such as S7, S10, and even the Note series devices.

Why is my phone saying invalid destination address?

If you want to know why you get the invalid destination address error when sending an MMS on your phone, let us explain quickly before getting to the solutions.

There are a number of reasons involving the invalid destination address error. To keep this guide simple, here is a list of most common reasons;

  1. You don’t have an insufficient amount of funds to send the message and since the message cannot reach the destination, it gives you this error.
  2. The receiver’s number is no longer used or the person has changed the network provider
  3. The other end does not support shortcode messages
  4. There is a problem with your SIM card
  5. Issues with your network provider/carrier

The list could go even further. But you don’t have to be worried about all these causes because in your case, there may be only one or two reasons causing the invalid destination address error.

All you have to do is follow our solutions correctly. Without any further ado, let’s get into the solutions.

How to fix the invalid destination address on Samsung Galaxy S20/S21/S22 Ultra

Do these solutions one by one and test if the MMS message did send to the person you want before going to the next solution.

Fix 01 – Check the credit balance

As we said in the beginning if you do not have enough credits on your account you won’t be able to send MMS to anyone and this is why you get the destination address error on your Galaxy smartphone.

So before going for other solutions, first check the credit balance of your account. Once verified that you do have credit but still get this error, then follow the next solution.

Fix 02 – Contact the network provider and make sure everything works fine on their end

Issues with the network provider or the carrier of your device are one of the most common reasons for this error message.

Contact your carrier or the network provider and verify that the MMS is working fine. They will also notify you if there is something wrong from their end and will fix it.

Don’t forget to restart your device once they confirm they have fixed the problem from their end.

Fix 03 – Refresh mobile data

As you know, sometimes mobile data is used when sending MMS. So if this is the case, refreshing mobile data should fix the problem.

To refresh mobile data, swipe down to get the notification panel, and then turn on the Airplane mode. Then after a few seconds, turn it off again.

Fix 04 – Clear the SIM card cache, as well as the Messaging app cache

If the problem is with caching of the SIM card of your Galaxy device, then you need to clear its cache.

Also, you should clear the app cache of the Messaging app to fix if there is any glitches in the app. To clear the SIM cache, follow these steps;

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap on Apps
  3. Tap on the Filter button and toggle on “show system Apps”
Show System Apps
  1. Then, scroll down and find the SIM toolkit. And tap on it
  2. Go to the Storage
  3. Tap on Clear cache

  2. Tap on the default messages app
  3. Tap on Storage
  4. Tap on Clear cache

After you did everything correctly, restart your device and see if the MSS messages send without issues.

Fix 05 – Clear the system cache

A corrupted or outdated system cache is another culprit that causes the invalid destination address error on your Galaxy device.

But the thing is you can clear this cache without removing any personal data. You do this by entering/booting your device into recovery mode.

Here is how you can do that;

  1. Turn off your device
  2. Press and hold the power + volume up buttons for a few seconds until your device boot into recovery mode. Then release the keys

Note: If this didn’t work, plug the USB cable into the device and press and hold the volume up button

  1. Use the volume down key and navigate to “Wipe cache partition.” Then press the power button
wipe cache partition
  1. Confirm the wipe cache partition by selecting “Yes”
confirm wipe cache
  1. After the wipe cache is completed, restart the device by navigating to “Reboot device now,” and pressing the power button

Fix 06 – Use a different SIM card or try a different number

A faulty SIM card on your mobile is another reason why you keep getting the invalid destination address error.

Also, if the person you want to send the MMS to has changed the number or the network provider, such errors can occur.

So you can check the SIM card by changing and putting another SIM card into the same slot of your device, and check if the MMS works. If so, then you have to change the SIM card on your device.

At the same time, by using the SIM you currently use or using the new SIM, you can send MMS to someone else. If that works, then should let the other person know about it.

Fix 07 – Contact Samsung customer support

If none of the above methods worked for you, reach out to Samsung customer support. They will analyze your devices’ log files and determine what causes the issue very accurately.

Then the experts will fix the issue for you.

Wrapping Up

Fixing the invalid destination address is not something you can do by tapping a few options on your Galaxy smartphone. However, by following the solution we have given in this guide, you should be able to fix the problem without looking for answers elsewhere.
