To do this, simply follow the steps below:
- open the Settings app, tap Apps, select the messaging app
- Then tap Force Stop.
- Now reopen the messaging app and see if the notification problem is solved.

Fix 02: Refresh notification settings in Message settings
Refreshing notification settings will fix any app glitch causing message notifications to malfunction. Even if notifications were previously enabled, and you haven’t changed any settings, this will reset all notification settings, and ensure that your notifications are properly enabled.
To refresh the message notification settings, you need to turn notifications off and on. Here are the steps that you need to follow:
- Open Messages.
- Tap on the three dots at the top right side.
- Tap on Messages settings.
- Toggle the Notification button off and then toggle it on again.
Fix 03: Turn off the “Put Unused Apps To Sleep” feature
On your Samsung Galaxy S22, there is a battery optimization feature that put apps to sleep when they are not in use, and this feature is called “Put unused apps to sleep.” When this feature is turned on, some apps may not work as they should, especially the notifications.
Therefore, if message notifications still aren’t working, it might be time to check and turn off the ‘Put Unused Apps To Sleep’ feature.
To do this, follow the steps below:
- Open Device Care.
- Tap on Battery
- Tap on Background usage limits.
- Toggle off “put unused apps to sleep.”
Fix 04: Turn off Do Not Disturb mode

To turn off Do not disturb mode, simply pull down the notification bar and keeps tapping on the Do Not Disturb icon. This will open a settings page. Tap on the switch to toggle it off.
You will know the feature is turned off when the switch turns into a white background with black colour. Once you have done this, check if you can receive message notifications.
