  • “Moisture detected” error message on the screen.

  • Unable to charge the phone due to moisture warning.

What Is the “Moisture Detected” Error?

The “Moisture detected” error occurs when the moisture detection sensor in your phone identifies the presence of water or humidity in the USB charging port or internal components.

Your phone will not charge when moisture is detected to protect it from electrical damage and short circuits. The error will will not disappear until the sensor no longer detects moisture.

If you believe the “Moisture detected” error is a false and your phone has not been exposed to water, follow the solutions below to get it resolved.

Properly Clean the USB Port and Phone

Precautions:

  • Before cleaning your phone, power it off to prevent damage. Avoid using sharp objects or liquids that can cause harm.
  • Do not use a hair dryer or heat gun, as excessive heat can damage the phone’s internal components.
  • Avoid inserting foreign objects into the USB port to prevent scratching or bending the connectors.
  • Gently shake your phone to remove visible droplets from the USB port.
  • While focusing on the charging port area, use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior of your device.
  • Take a soft-bristled brush (e.g., a clean toothbrush) and gently clean the USB port to remove moisture, lint, or debris.
  • Alternatively, use a can of compressed air to blow into the port. Hold the can upright and avoid tilting it to prevent liquid from entering the phone.
  • If possible, place your phone in a sealed bag with silica gel packs (commonly found in product packaging) to absorb moisture.
  • Leave it for several hours or overnight for best results.

Restart the Phone

Restarting your phone may clear false positive readings from the moisture detection sensor.

  1. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the power menu appears.
  2. Select Restart and allow the device to reboot.

Clear USB Settings App Cache

The USB Settings app manages charging and connectivity functions, and its cache can sometimes cause false moisture alerts.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps and tap the filter icon and select Show System Apps.
  3. Find USB Settings from the app list and tap on it.
  4. Tap Storage and choose Clear Cache.
  5. Restart the phone.

Try a Different USB Cable

If the error persists, the issue could be with the charging cable.

Inspect your current USB cable for visible damage, such as fraying or bent connectors. Then use a different Samsung-certified USB cable to charge your device. If the new cable works, replace your damaged cable.

Note: Always Use Samsung-certified USB cables to charge your phone as non-certified cables often produce errors.

Perform a Software Update

Outdated software can sometimes cause false error messages from time-to-time. Ensure your phone is running the latest Android version.

NOTE: Ensure your phone has at least 75% of charge remaining before updating it.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Software Update.
  3. Tap on Download and Install.
  4. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
