According to a report from The Elec, Samsung is developing new battery technology for its upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. The reports suggests the new tech may increase battery capacity to 5,500mAh while maintaining the same size as the 5,000mAh battery in the current Galaxy S24 Ultra.

This new tech originally comes from a competition of Chinese smartphone manufacturers. They have adopted silicon carbide (SiC) batteries that has about 10% higher energy density compared to lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries.

According to the report, Samsung SDI (battery and electronic materials manufacturer) is focusing on a stacked battery design. This design is expected to provide similar energy density as SiC batteries but without switching to the newer material. This would allow Samsung to improve battery life in its flagship devices without increasing their thickness.

The stacked battery technology may feature is Galaxy S26 Ultra, and other flagship due to higher manufacturing costs associated with the new technology.
