Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2, previously limited to Samsung devices, can now be used on any Android phone with a new third-party opensource app called uTag.

Developed by Kieron Quinn, the uTag app replicates the features of Samsung Find app, allowing users to track their Galaxy SmartTag 2’s location, ring the device, and customize ringtones.

Additionally, it offers features like alerting users if an unknown SmartTag is tracking them and the ability to share the SmartTag with family or friends. Users can also add widgets to their home screens for easier access.

To use the uTag app, Android users must have a device running Android 11 or later. The app requires a patched version of the SmartThings app to bypass checks that restrict usage to Samsung phones. Upon installation, users must sign in to their Samsung accounts to enable the app’s full features.
