Nvidia RTX 50 Series Use Samsung GDDR7 Memory Chips
At the recent CES event, Nvidia unveiled its RTX 50-series GPUs. A key highlight of these new graphics cards is their incorporation of GDDR7 memory, produced by Samsung Electronics.
During a media briefing, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang confirmed that the initial versions of the RTX 50-series will use GDDR7 VRAM chips from Samsung.
Samsung has been a frontrunner in the development of GDDR7 memory. They completed its production process in mid-2023. The new chips deliver impressive bandwidth of up to 1.5TB/s, a 40% improvement over the previous GDDR6 standard. Achieving a per-pin speed of 32Gbps, these advancements were made possible through the innovative PAM3 (Pulse-Amplitude Modulation) signaling technique.
Nvidia continues to lead the market in AI accelerators and GPU technologies. Its latest AI chips use HBM3E memory from both Micron and SK Hynix. Samsung’s HBM3E offerings have yet to receive certification from Nvidia and it impacted the company’s semiconductor division negatively.
