One UI 7 Enhances Face Recognition Setup with Improved Scanning

Samsung’s One UI 7 (based on Android 15) introduces a new face recognition setup process with improved speed and accuracy. While not officially mentioned in the software update changelog, this smoother experience has been recognized by many users during their face registration.
Setting up face recognition before only required to simply looking at the camera for a few seconds. In One UI 7, this process has been updated and now it begins by scanning the front of your face, followed by instructions to slightly tilt your head upwards and downwards. These adjustments help the device to create a more accurate profile of your facial features.
To setup face recognition on your phone: Go to Settings > Security and privacy > Screen lock and select biometrics.
It is important to keep in mind that the registration process cannot be recorded using screen recorders. Samsung says this is to protect integrity of their facial recognition system.
The new face recognition settings still have options from earlier versions, such as adding an alternative face, enable face detection only when their eyes are open, and temporarily increase screen brightness to improve recognition in low-light conditions.
