Fix 01: Make Sure Calendar Notifications Are Turned On
First, you need to ensure that calendar notifications are enabled on your Samsung Galaxy S20. If the notifications are disabled, you will not receive any alerts for your upcoming events.
Here’s how to check if the notifications are turned on for Samsung Calendar:
- Go to your S20’s Settings.
- Scroll down and tap on “Apps”.
- In the list of apps, find and tap on “Calendar”.
- Tap on “Notifications”.
- Ensure that the Show Notifications toggle is turned on.
If you are using other calendar apps such as Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar, you need to check the notification settings for these apps as well, using the same procedure mentioned above.
If notifications are already enabled but you’re still not receiving any alerts, proceed to the next fix.
Fix 02: Check Additional Calendars
If you’re using additional calendars such as Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar alongside the Samsung Calendar, you need to ensure that these are correctly synced and have notifications enabled.
This is because the Samsung Calendar app pulls data from these additional calendars and uses their notification settings.
Follow the steps below to check and enable notification settings for additional calendars:
- Open the “Samsung Calendar” app.
- Tap on the hamburger menu icon.
- Tap on “Manage Calendars”. This will open a list of all the calendars that are currently synced with your Samsung Calendar app.
- Check the sync status of each calendar. If the sync is turned off, tap on the switch next to the calendar name to turn it on. Make sure the switch turns blue, which indicates that sync is enabled.
- Tap on each calendar to check its notification settings. If notifications are turned off, tap on the switch next to “Event notifications” or “All-day event notifications” to turn them on.
Fix 03: Configure Samsung Calendar Alerts
Samsung Calendar app has settings that allow you to customize how you receive notifications.
If you are still not receiving alerts as expected, it is possible that these settings are not configured correctly.
Here’s how to access and modify these settings correctly:
- Open the Samsung Calendar app on your Galaxy S20.
- Tap on the menu icon.
- From the menu that appears, tap on “Settings”.
- Scroll down to the Alerts section. Here, you can adjust the Alert style and Alert times.
- Alert style determines how calendar notifications are displayed on your screen.
- Alert times setting allows you to set when you want to receive the alert before an event. You can set multiple alerts for a single event.
- Save changes before exiting the settings menu.
Fix 04: Disable DND Mode
Do Not Disturb (DND) mode blocks or silences calendar notifications. If this mode is enabled, it is the reason why you’re not receiving any calendar notifications.
To ensure this is not the case, you need to disable DND mode on your Samsung Galaxy S20. Here’s how to do it:
- Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the notification shade.
- Look for the Do Not Disturb icon. It’s usually a circle with a line through it.
- If the icon is highlighted, that means DND mode is on. Tap on the icon to disable it.
If the icon is not highlighted, that means DND mode is already off, and you should move on to the next fix.
Fix 05: Update the Samsung Calendar App
Sometimes, bugs or glitches in the Samsung Calendar app can cause issues with notifications.
One way to resolve this is by updating the app to its latest version.
Here’s how you can update the Samsung Calendar app:
- Open the “Galaxy Store” app.
- Tap on the menu icon.
- From the dropdown menu, select “Updates”.
- You’ll see a list of apps with available updates. Look for the Samsung Calendar app.
- If an update is available, tap on Update.
Fix 06: Clear Samsung Calender App Data
If updating the Samsung Calendar app didn’t work, you can clear the app data of the Samsung Calendar to resolve notifications not showing issues.
This process removes all the data associated with the app, including your settings, preferences, and any temporary files that might be causing problems.
Note: Clearing the app data will not delete your calendar events, as they are synced with your Samsung account. However, it will reset the app to its default settings.
Here’s how to clear the Samsung Calendar app data:
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and tap on “Apps”.
- In the list of apps, find and tap on “Calendar”.
- Tap on “Storage”.
- Tap on “Clear Data” and confirm your action.
After completing these steps, open your Samsung Calendar app and check if the notifications are working correctly. If not, reconfigure your notification settings by following Fix 03 as they have been reset to default.
