Samsung Galaxy S22 Facebook Messenger is Not Working – How to Fix

If you’re a Samsung Galaxy S22 user and your Facebook Messenger app is not working, it’s likely not a hardware issue with your device. The problem could be due to corrupted app data, bugs in the app, incompatibility with the latest Android update, or other system issues. 

The good news is, these are software issues that can be fixed easily. This guide will provide you with step-by-step instructions to troubleshoot and resolve the issue, so you can start using Facebook Messenger on your Galaxy S22 without any problem.

Note: Solutions in this guide will work on any Samsung Galaxy S22 model (S22, S22 Plus, S22 Fe, and S22 Ultra models.)

Fix 01: Restart Your Galaxy S22

Restarting your Samsung Galaxy S22 helps clear out the device’s memory (RAM), which might be causing temporary glitches affecting the performance of the Facebook Messenger app.

This process will not delete any of your data. It simply eliminates any minor software issues that could be causing your Facebook Messenger app to malfunction.

Here’s how to restart your Galaxy S22:

1. Press and hold the Power button and the Volume down button simultaneously for a few seconds.

2. When the Samsung Logo appears, release the keys.

Fix 02: Clear Facebook Messenger App Data

Corrupted app data and cache are other major culprits behind the malfunctioning of the Facebook Messenger app on your Samsung Galaxy S22. These can cause the app to behave erratically or even prevent it from opening altogether.

Please note that clearing app data will log you out of your Facebook Messenger account on your device, and you will need to re-login. However, rest assured that this action won’t delete your conversations or multimedia files like images, videos, or audio files. These are stored on Facebook’s servers and on your phone’s separate storage area and will be available again once you log back in.

Here’s how you can clear the Facebook Messenger app data:

1. Open the Settings menu.
2. Scroll down and tap on Apps.
3. In the list of installed apps, find and tap on “Messenger”.

4. Tap on “Storage”.
5. You will see two options: “Clear Data” and “Clear Cache”. Tap on Clear cache, and on Clear data.

Fix 03: Update Facebook Messenger

The version of the Facebook Messenger app you are using may have bugs that cause it to malfunction. An easy fix to this issue is to update the app to the latest version. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open the Google Play Store on your Galaxy S22.
2. Tap on the profile icon icon located at the top-left corner.

3. Select ”Manage apps and device”.

4. Find Facebook Messenger in the list of apps that need updates.
5. Tap on “Update” for Facebook Messenger.

Note: If you don’t see Facebook Messenger in the list, it means your app is up-to-date.

Fix 04: Re-Install Facebook Messenger

If updating the Facebook Messenger app didn’t resolve the issue, a fresh installation will do the job. Uninstalling the app removes all its associated data from your device, and reinstalling it ensures you have a clean, error-free version of the app.

Here are the steps to uninstall and reinstall the Facebook Messenger app:

1. Navigate to your device’s Settings.
2. Scroll down and tap on “Apps”.
3. In the list of installed apps, find and tap on “Messenger”.
4. Tap on “Uninstall”. Confirm your action.
5. Once the app is uninstalled, restart your device.
6. After the restart, open Google Play Store.
7. Search for “Messenger” in the search bar.
8. Tap on “Install” to download and install the app.

You’ll need to log in to your Facebook account again once you reinstall the app

Fix 05: Install an Older Version of Facebook Messenger App

It is possible the latest version of the Facebook Messenger app will not be compatible with your Galaxy S22. This can result in the app not functioning properly. To resolve this, you can try installing an older version of the app that is known to work well with your device. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Uninstall the current version of Facebook Messenger from your device.
2. Go to a reliable APK download website such as APKMirror or APKPure.
3. Search for an older version of Facebook Messenger. Make sure to choose a version that was released before the one causing you issues.
4. Download the APK file and install it on your device.

Note: While installing an APK from a third-party source, you will be prompted to allow installation from unknown sources. You can allow this, but make sure to turn it off after you have installed the app.

Caution: Downloading apps from third-party sources can pose a security risk. Always ensure that the source is reliable and trusted before downloading.

Once you have installed the older version, check if the Facebook Messenger app is working correctly. If not, you may need to try a different version or follow the last step mentioned below.

Fix 06: Update Your Galaxy S22 and Install the App Again

The Facebook Messenger app may not work properly if your Samsung Galaxy S22’s operating system is outdated. The app updates are released to work with the latest Android updates, and if your device is running on an older version, it could lead to compatibility issues.

Here’s how you can update your Galaxy S22 to the latest version:

1. Open Settings.
2. Scroll down and tap on “Battery and device care”.
