Recently, we published a guide on how to fix if the notifications are not working on Samsung Galaxy S22, and it seems like there is another similar issue Galaxy S22 users are experiencing these days, which is the notification sound not working issue.
There are a lot of users we saw on the Samsung community that have reported this issue. If the notifications are working, but there is no notification sound, then you may have to take a few troubleshooting steps to fix this issue.
So we will explain what you need to do to make your Galaxy S22’s notification sound back to work again.
Let’s get started.
Note: Solutions mentioned in this guide will work on any Samsung Galaxy S22 model.
Editor’s note: We created these instructions using a Samsung Galaxy S22 running Android 12. Depending on your device’s software version, some steps and menu positions may look slightly different.
Why is there no notification sound on your Galaxy S22?
For those who want to know why the notification sound doesn’t work on their Galaxy S22, the main reason is misconfigurations in the notification settings.
There are a number of options to choose from and configure under notification settings. If you have changed or disabled notification sounds, then this will be the main cause of the issue you are facing right now.
Aside from that, a malfunction in device settings and/or DND (Do not disturb) mode can also lead to the notification sounds not working.
If you have recently updated your Galaxy S22 and then you started to see there is no notification sound on your device, then the update should be the issue here. It is true that updates are meant to carry performance and stability improvements. However, updates won’t work the same for all devices.
So these are the main reasons for the no notification sound issue on Samsung S22 devices. There can be one or even a few issues with your device that cause this problem. But you don’t need to worry because below are the solutions that you were looking for to fix this.
How to fix Samsung Galaxy S22 no notification sound
Follow these solutions one by one and test if the notification sound of your device works before going to the next one.
Fix 01 – Turn off if the Do not disturb mode is turned on
As you may know already, if the Do not disturb mode (also known as the DND mode) is turned on, you won’t receive any notification or notification sounds on your device. To fix this, you have to turn it off (if it is turned on)
Swipe down and load the notification panel. Then see if the Do not disturb button is turned on. If so, tap on it and turn it off. Then restart the device.
Fix 02 – Make sure the notification sounds are turned on
As the name suggests, first, you should go to the settings of your Galaxy S22 and see if the notification sounds are turned off.
There is an option to disable notification sound by apps. So if you are not getting notification sounds from a particular app, then you have to check that as well.
The notification sounds are located under notification settings. Here is how you can make sure whether it is turned on or not;
- Open Settings
- Tap on “Sound and vibrations”
- Tap on Sound mode and set notification sound
- Then, go back and tap on “Notifications”
- Tap on “Included apps”
- Then make sure you have selected every necessary app you want
Fix 03 – Reset accessibility settings
Accessibility has a variety of options that affect notification sounds. By resetting accessibility settings, we expect to solve if there is any malfunction in the accessibility on your Galaxy S22 smartphone.
To reset accessibility settings, follow these steps;
- Open Settings
- Tap on General management
- Then, tap on Reset
- Under reset settings, tap on “Reset accessibility settings”
- Confirm
Once you have reset the accessibility settings, restart your device to see the changes in effect.
Fix 4 – Reset all settings
If resetting the accessibility did not work, you could try resetting all settings on your Samsung S22.
When you reset all settings on your device, all values will be set to default. So you will have to configure other settings and set them as before after the reset is completed.
Resetting all settings is easy. Here is all you have to do;
- Go to Settings > General management
- Tap on Reset
- Then, tap on “Reset all settings”
- Confirm
As you did after resetting accessibility settings, restart your device once all reset settings are completed. Then, see if the notification sound works and if the issue is fixed.
Fix 05 – Check for software updates
If the problem is with the Android system or the notification sound issue started to occur after a software update, you can check for updates and see if there is any patch available to install.
Samsung has already released a patch for this issue, so all you have to do is update your device.
Follow the steps below;
- Open Settings
- Tap on Software updates
- Then, tap on “Download and install”
Once you tap on the download and install option, your device will start to check for updates and will let you know to install it.
Fix 06 – Factory data reset or contact customer support
If none of the above solutions worked, you have two options. One is sending a bug report to Samsung or contacting Samsung customer support. The other one is, doing a factory data reset.
You can use the Samsung members app or contact customer support directly. If you want to reset your device, you have to perform a task before.
You know that resetting your device will delete everything saved on your Galaxy S22. Therefore, use this guide to back up your data (make sure to take a full backup). Once you have completed that, follow these steps.
- Open Settings and go to General management
- Tap on Reset
- Tap on “Factory data reset”
- Enter the password if you have set up a lock screen on your device
- Then, confirm to reset your device.
It will take a while to complete the factory data reset, and your device will be restarted once it is completed. Then, see if the notification sound works. You can then restore the backup.
