Samsung is said to be developing a 500MP camera mobile camera sensor
Samsung has expressed plans to push their 200MP sensor further with reports pointing to a 500MP camera sensor being in the works.
According to recent reports, Samsung is actively developing a 500MP high-resolution sensor which may soon be included in its Galaxy smartphone lineup. Currently, Samsung integrates a 200MP sensor in the Galaxy S Ultra models and the upcoming flagship devices may incorporate the new 500MP technology.
However this new sensor is not expected to appear in the Galaxy S25 series as leaks confirm that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will has the 200MP main sensor.
There are both benefits and drawbacks using a 200MP sensor. Many high-end smartphones from other brands use larger sensors (such as 1 inch in size) with resolutions around 50MP. These larger sensors can capture more details to create superior image quality. However, large sensors lead to larger camera bumps and can affect the overall device design.
In contrast, Samsung’s smaller 200MP sensors allow for better designs but require advanced image processing capabilities. This often results in longer wait times for images to be processed after capture (a concern that some Galaxy users have raised). Samsung has tried to address this issue with the Good Lock feature which accelerates the shutter speed at the cost of image quality.
