Reasons why the Samsung Galaxy S20 alarm has no sound?
If you wonder why the alarm goes off but doesn’t sound, there can be one or a few reasons for that.
The first and most common reason is the configurations within the alarm app. If you don’t configure the alarm correctly, it won’t produce any sound when it goes off.
Another reason for this issue is the sound profile of your Galaxy S20. Especially the Do Not Disturb mode and the vibrate or silent volume profiles.
Also, glitches, bugs in the Android system, the Clock app, and corrupted or outdated cache all contribute to causing the alarm doesn’t sound issue.
After reading the reasons, you might get nervous about how to fix this. Don’t worry, let us tell you what you need to do. All you have to do is follow them.
Fix 01: Configure Alarm Settings
There are three options you should look at the alarm settings.
- Alarm tone.
- Alarm volume.
- The vibration.
1 – Change the Alarm Tone/Sound.
First, make sure you have set the alarm sound to a ringtone. In alarm settings, there is a Bixby alarm, which you can set as the alarm sound. But this option could often lead to the alarm not sounding even if it goes off.
If you don’t know how to change this setting, let us guide you.
- Open the Clock app
- Go to the Alarm section
- Tap on the alarm you want to sound
- Scroll down and tap on Alarm sound
- Tap on Ringtone, then select a ringtone you desire
2 – Make Sure the Alarm Volume is Set to a High Level
As you may know, there is a dedicated volume control for the alarm on newer Android systems, even on your Galaxy S20.
If this alarm volume level is set to low, you won’t hear any sound even if it’s working properly. Therefore, follow these steps and increase the alarm volume.
- Press any volume key
- Tap on the three dots on the volume bar
- You will get multiple volume controls. Increase the volume as highlighted in the image below.
3 – Turn Off Vibration
There is another option in the alarm settings, which is “vibrate for alarms and timers.” This setting is supposed to vibrate the device while producing the alarm sound.
However, for some reason, this setting doesn’t work as it should. This might be the reason why you only hear a vibration when the alarm goes off on your Galaxy S20 or doesn’t sound at all.
Therefore, turn off this setting by following these steps.
- Open the Clock app > Alarms
- Tap on the alarm you want
- Scroll down and toggle off “Vibrate for alarms and timers”
Now you should be good to go.
Fix 02: Clear the Clock App Data
As I said earlier, the bugs and glitches within the clock app can also cause to alarm sound not to work. An easier fix to this is clearing the app’s data.
But before that, you need to remember the alarms and reminders you have set up before. It is because when you clear the app data, everything inside the clock app will be removed and set to factory settings.
You can save your previously added alarms and reminders by taking screenshots or you can simply note them down.
Once you do that, proceed to the solution given below.
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Apps.
- Scroll down and find the Clock app.
- Tap on it.
- Go to Manage storage or Storage section.
- Tap on Clear data
Fix 03: Turn Off Do not Disturb
Usually, the alarm works fine while on the do not disturb mode. However, things don’t work correctly, as always.
That said, keep in mind to turn off the do not disturb when you go to sleep or whenever there is an alarm to be ringing. You can make it a habit!
Fix 04: Change the Volume Profile
Sometimes, we change the volume profile to vibrate and even silent mode. The problem with this is the alarm doesn’t always sound when either one of these is enabled.
Therefore, make sure you have set the sound profile to standard. And the volume level is set to a decent level.
Fix 05 Clear the Cache
The cache is a type of data that gets produced when you run certain apps on your device. It is helpful to work with the apps smoothly.
That said, a corrupted or outdated cache can cause various issues too. Especially if you recently updated your Galaxy S20’s software, the cache should be cleared out in order to avoid these kinds of problems.
To do this, first, you have to boot your smartphone into recovery mode. If you don’t know, follow the steps below.
- Turn your device off
- Press and hold the power button and the volume button until your device boots into recovery mode
- Use the volume down key and navigate to “Wipe cache partition,” then press the power button
- Select Yes and press the power button to confirm the wipe cache
- Once it is completed, press the power button to restart the device
Once your Galaxy S20 is restarted, go ahead and check if the alarm sound is working now.
