Are you one of those users experiencing black and white colors on the Samsung Galaxy S22 display instead of the usual vibrant colors? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
In this article, we’ll show you 7 easy and straightforward fixes for this issue. So sit back, relax, and let’s get to it!
Note: Solutions in this guide will work on any Samsung Galaxy S22 model (S22, S22 Plus, S22 Fe, and S22 Ultra models.)
Editor’s note: We created these instructions using a Samsung Galaxy S22 running Android 13. Depending on your device’s software version, some steps and menu positions may look slightly different.
Fix 01 – Turn Off Bedtime Mode in Modes and Routines
Bedtime mode (also known as sleep mode) turns the screen grayscale and mutes alerts and specific sounds in your Galaxy S22.
Therefore, you must turn off bedtime mode to allow the display to return to its normal color settings. Not only is this a quick fix, but it’s also a great way to make sure the display isn’t draining the battery while you’re not using your device.
To turn off Bedtime mode:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on Digital wellbeing and parenting controls.
- Scroll down and tap on Bedtime mode.
- If it is turned on, tap on End bedtime mode.
Now that your Galaxy S22 is no longer running in bedtime mode. Now check the colors of your Galaxy S22. If the issue still persists, don’t worry, simply move to the next solution.
Fix 02 – Turn Off Color Correction in Accessibility Settings
The color correction setting adjusts how colors are displayed on the screen for users who are color-blind or have difficulty distinguishing between colors.
If you have enabled color correction, turning it off in accessibility settings will resolve the issue. This feature may be identified as ‘Color Inversion’ or ‘Color Correction’ and can often be found under the ‘Vision’ tab of the Accessibility Settings.
Here is what you need to do:
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and tap on Accessibility settings.
- Then, tap on Visibility enhancements.
- Tap on Color correction.
- Turn it off.
Fix 03 – Turn Off High Contrast in Accessibility Settings
Just like the color correction setting, high contrast mode helps users who have difficulty reading standard text. When turned on, the device switches to a high-contrast color palette, typically using a combination of black and white.
So as before, by turning off High contrast, your Galaxy S22 will revert to its normal display settings.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and tap on Accessibility settings.
- Then, tap on Visibility enhancements.
- Select Default display mode.
- Toggle off High contrast fonts.
- Tap on High contrast theme
- Select None.
Now you can see the full range of colors the device has to offer. But if you’re still not seeing the colors you want, there are a few more steps to do. Keep troubleshooting.
Fix 04 – Turn Off Other Color Settings in Accessibility Settings
There are some other color settings apart from the ones that we discussed earlier above. So if you are still seeing only black and white colors on your Galaxy S22, follow the steps below and turn them off.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and tap on Accessibility settings.
- Then, tap on Visibility enhancements.
- Toggle off Color inversion.
- Toggle off High contrast keyboard.
- Toggle off High contrast buttons.
- Tap on Color filter and turn it off
Fix 05 – Turn Off Dark Mode
Dark mode also turns the display colors into black and white. When turned off, the dark background colors will be replaced with light or bright backgrounds. Therefore, follow these steps and turn off dark mode:
- On Settings > Display, tap on the Light mode.
Once you have turned off dark mode, check your phone display and see if the problem is resolved.
Fix 06 – Reset All Settings
If you are still seeing a black and white screen, you have 2 options to go with. 1 – reset all settings, 2 – factory data reset.
Resetting all the device’s settings will restore all the changed configurations to factory values. This is the fix we use often when there could be misconfigurations in device settings.
On the other hand, factory data reset wipes out all the personal data of your Galaxy S22. So keep the factory data reset option as the last resort, and reset all the settings to see if the problem gets fixed.
To do this:
- Head over to Settings.
- Go to General management.
- Tap on Reset.
- Tap on Reset all settings.
- Confirm.
Fix 07 – Do a Factory Data Reset
If none of the above fixes doesn’t work, you need to do a factory data reset on your device.
After a factory data reset, all the bugs will be removed and the device will be running smoothly again.
But as we said before, doing a factory data reset will remove every personal data saved in your Galaxy S22. So before you do that, make sure you’ve backed up all your data or it’ll be lost forever.
Once you have taken the backup, follow the steps below to do the factory data reset:
- Head over to Settings.
- Go to General management.
- Tap on Reset.
- Tap on Factory data reset.
- Confirm.
