Check For Any Damage (Water Leak, Drop Damage) Before Going For Any Fixes

Checking for any damage, such as water leak or drop damage, should be the first step you need to do because one of the most common causes of flickering screens is damaged or defective display. It could be a water leak, a drop, or some other type of physical damage to your Samsung Galaxy S22.

A visual inspection should be enough to spot any signs of damage. So take a look at your device, if you do find any damage, it is best to not attempt any further fixes yourself. Instead, take your device to a qualified technician to repair it. Doing so can save you a lot of time and hassle in the long run.

With any potential damage ruled out, the next step is to look into potential fixes for the flickering screen.

Fix 01 – Do a Forced Restart

A forced restart will clean the device’s cache while clearing any memory leaks and display driver issues that could be the reason behind the screen flickering.

Here you need to turn off your Galaxy S22, and then turn it back on to see if the problem is resolved.

To power off:

  1. Swipe down the notification panel.
  2. Tap on the Power menu icon.

  1. Tap on the Power off button on the power menu.

  1. Then wait about a minute before turning on the device.

To power up:

  1. Press and hold the power key until you see the Samsung logo appearing on screen, and then release the keys.

Fix 02 – Turn Off Adaptive Brightness

If your device’s display is still flickering, it is time to consider turning off the adaptive brightness feature.

Adaptive brightness adjusts the brightness of your screen based on the ambient light in the room or outside, but it can sometimes cause problems.

To turn it off, go to your device’s Settings, then follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on Display.
  3. Toggle off the Adaptive brightness.

Once you’ve done that, restart your device by:

  1. Press and hold the power key and volume down key together until the device starts to turn off and display the Samsung logo.
Force restart samsung

After your device is restarted, check if the problem has fixed.

Fix 03 – Reboot to Safe Mode

Rebooting your device to Safe Mode can help you determine if the reason for the problem is a third-party app. This is because safe mode only allows system apps to run on the device. So if the problem is a third-party app, your Galay S22 will not show any flickering effect on the screen.

To reboot to Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold the power button.
  2. Then, tap and hold your finger on the power off button until you see the safe mode button.
  3. Then tap on it to restart your device into the safe mode.

Once your device has restarted to safe mode, see if the problem persists. If you cannot see the screen flickers, then it is a third-party app causing the issue. In this case, reboot your device and go to:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps.
  2. Tap on a recently installed app.
  3. Tap on Uninstall.

Fix 04 – Reset All Settings

Resetting all settings is the next step to try if the flickering persists after rebooting to Safe Mode. This will return every change you have made to the settings to factory defaults. This could help fix the flickering issue if it was caused by a misconfigured setting.

To reset all settings, you’ll need to:

  1. Head over to Settings.
  2. Go to General management.
  3. Tap on Reset.

  1. Tap on Reset all settings.

  1. Scroll down and confirm.

Fix 05 – Do a Software Update

Software bugs are not so easy to fix by adjusting or resettings settings. For such issues, updating the software is the best option you can take.

  1. Connect your device to a stable Wi-Fi connection
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Tap Battery and device care.

  1. Scroll down and select Software Update.

  1. Tap the Download and Install button.

  1. Wait for the device to find an update to install.

This can be a time-consuming process, but if done correctly it can make a huge difference in the performance of your device. Plus, it’s a great way to ensure your device is running the latest and greatest version of the software.

Fix 06 – Do a Factory Data Reset

Factory data reset is the last fix you have left with to fix the flickering issue on your Galaxy S22. This process may sound a bit intimidating, but it’s actually quite simple. However, doing a factory data reset will remove all of your personal files from your device.

Therefore, be sure to take a backup before you are going to reset your device.

Once you are ready, follow these steps to initiate the factory data reset:

  1. Go to Settings > General management.
  2. Tap on Reset.
  3. Under the reset menu, tap on Factory data reset.

  1. Enter the lock screen password, and then confirm.

When it’s done, your device restarts to its original state and the flickering issue should be gone.
