Samsung Secure Folder Keeps Crashing After Android 13 Update

After the Android 13 update, some Samsung smartphone users have started to suffer from various defects on their smartphones. 

While there are a lot of issues we see in the Samsung community, we saw a number of users have reported the secure folder keeps crashing after they updated their Samsung Galaxy smartphone to Android 13. 

Since we have a couple of Samsung Galaxy devices on our own, we tested if we could also produce the crashing issue, and obviously, a Galaxy S21 device shows crashing after opening the Secure Folder.

Then we had the opportunity to test some solutions we came up with, and guess what? We were able to successfully fix the issue after doing a couple of fixes.

So if the secure folder keeps crashing on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone after updating its software to Android 13, the solutions we are about to show you should fix this problem. 

Why does Samsung Knox Secure Folder crash after Android 13 update?

If you wonder, the reason why the secure folder crashes are probably because of a bug that came with the Android 13 software update. Maybe after installing the update, the app became glitched and defective since the system files had been changed.

Also, caching issues can be a culprit of this issue. However, if you have already cleared the app cache as well as the system cache, then this is not the reason for your case.

Since this problem started to occur Android 13 update, by applying solutions to defective updates, you should be able to fix the problem, just like us (as we mentioned above)

So don’t worry about what causes the problem. All you have to do is follow the solutions we have given below. Let’s get into them.

How to fix the Samsung Secure Folder crashing issue

There are six (6) solutions here. Follow them carefully and do as we have mentioned. Also, to save you time on fixing this problem, check if the Secure folder app works without caching again after applying each solution.

Let’s start with clearing the app data of the Secure Folder app.

Fix 01 – Clear the secure folder app data

If there is app data causing the secure folder to crash, you have to clean the app data folder to fix it.

You can clear the app data of the secure folder app to do this. If you don’t know, here is how;

Note: Clearing the app data will also remove your login information. So you will have to log in again into your account after cleaning app data.

1. Open Settings
2. Tap on Apps
3. Then, scroll down and find the Secure folder app and tap on it
4. First, stop the app from running by tapping the “Force stop” button
5. Then, tap on the Storage option
6. On there, tap on Clear data and confirm to clear the app data of the Secure folder

Once you have cleared the app data, open the Secure folder and log into your account, and see if the app works without crashing.

Fix 02 – Update the Secure Folder app

You can check for app updates on the Secure folder and install if there is any update. Maybe Samsung has released an optimized version of the Secure Folder for Android 13 software. And if so, your problem will be fixed just after installing the update.

To install the app update, you can use the Galaxy Store or Google Play Store. If you are going to use Galaxy Store for this, you should have updated the Galaxy store to the latest version and logged into your Samsung account, then follow these steps;

1. Open the Galaxy Store app
2. Tap on the menu button in the bottom-right corner
3. Tap on Updates
4. Then scroll down to see if the Secure Folder is listed. If so, tap on the update icon next to it to install the app update.

After you install the update, you should clean the app cache for better results;

1. Go to Settings > Apps
2. Tap on the Secure Folder app and go to the Storage section
3. Then, tap on Clear cache

Once you cleared the cache, open the app and see if the problem is fixed.

Fix 03 – Check for another software update

At the time of writing this guide, there should be one or two software updates (security patches) Samsung has released for the newest Galaxy devices such as Samsung Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Foldable phones, etc.

So if you are using one of the above-mentioned devices, you should get an update. Also, the new security patch is more likely to have a fix for this issue.

Therefore, it is worth checking for a new update. 

1. Open Settings
2. Go to Software update
3. Tap on Download and install to check for a new update.

Fix 04 – Clear system cache

When you update the software on your Samsung device, it is a good practice to clear the system cache, as it might be outdated due to the update.

So if you haven’t done so, you have to boot your Samsung device into recovery mode and clear the cache partition of your device. Follow the steps below;

1. Turn off your device
2. Press and hold the power key + volume key until your device boots into recovery mode. Then release the keys
3. Use the volume down key and select “Wipe cache partition”
4. Press the power button

5. Now you will see a message to confirm the operation. Select “Yes” and press the power key again to start the wipe cache process

6. Once it is completed, you will see the recovery menu again. Select “Reboot device now” 

Now your device will get rebooted to normal mode. Then you can check if the problem is solved.

Fix 05 – Back up your data and do a Factory data reset

If the Secure Folder crashing issue on your Samsung smartphone still persists, you can contact the Samsung customer support center or perform a factory data reset.

You know that doing a hard reset (factory data reset) will completely remove all your personal files. So without taking a backup, you shouldn’t perform such action.

So once you take a backup of your device, proceed to do a factory data reset;

1. Open Settings
2. Tap on General management
3. Tap on Reset
4. Then tap on “Factory data reset”
5. Confirm the reset

You will have to wait a while until the reset gets completed. Then, you can set up the device and restore the backup and see if the Secure Folder works without crashing.
