How to Increase Internet Speed on Your Samsung Galaxy S20

There are a few ways to increase the internet speed on your Samsung Galaxy S20. These are:

  1. Switching to a 5G network.
  2. Using a WiFi router with an Antenna.
  3. Use a Speed test app to determine what place has the best reception.
  4. Reduce the number of apps sharing the bandwidth.

01. Switch to a 5G Network

If you are on a 4G network, the maximum speed you can reach is 50 Mbps for upload and 50 Mbps for download. But if you switch to 5G you will get up to 20 gigabits per second (Gbps) for downloads and 10 Gbps for uploads.

If your carrier (network provider) supports 5G, then you can contact them to get a 5G SIM card or an eSIM. Most of the providers now support 5G so if you are located in the US or European country you may able to upgrade to the new network.

Once you have obtained the 5G SIM, you can follow the steps to turn on 5G on your phone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on “Connections”.
  3. Tap on “Mobile networks”.

  1. Select the network mode as “5G” for your new SIM card.

02. Using a WiFi Router With an Antenna.

Using a WiFi router can save some battery life of your phone while speeding up the internet. But you need to choose the right one for your home.

You can choose from ADSL, 4G, 5G, and Fibre optics for a router. The best speed would be from the Fibre optics. However, it would cost you a little more than the other technologies.

To increase the reception of a WiFi router, you can use an antenna. Network providers usually have these types of antennas to aid the signal reception of their routers. You can contact the customer care of the network provider and ask for a router to be installed on your home.

03. Use a Speed Test App

Internet speed test apps can help you find the sweet spot that has strong signals. Some of these apps even have features to compare speed test results for each location to figure out the best area for you to download/upload things on the internet.

Best internet speed test apps include:

04. Reduce the Number of Apps Sharing the Bandwidth

Some apps run in the background of a smartphone and can use the internet bandwidth of the device. This means the more apps using the bandwidth, the less internet speed you would get.

To increase the internet speed, you can reduce the background data usage of the apps installed on the phone. First, you need to figure out which apps use most of the bandwidth, and then restrict their background data usage.

To find the apps that use the internet while running in the background, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on “Connections”.
  3. Tap on “Data usage”.

  1. Look for the apps that use most of the data

Once identified, you can restrict the background usage of those apps by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on “Apps”.
  3. Find and tap on the app you want to restrict the data usage.
Select google chrome as an example
  1. Tap on “Mobile data”.
