When Your Galaxy S24 Heating Up Is Normal and Not a Concern

There are scenarios where your Galaxy S24 may heat up, but it is normal and does not indicate a problem:

  • During initial setup or data restoration: The phone’s processor, RAM, internet connectivity works intensively to sync accounts, download updates, and restore apps.
  • When downloading large files: High data usage and processor activity generate heat.
  • Using power-intensive apps or multitasking: Apps like games or video editing tools require a lot of processing power and can lead to temporary heating.
  • While syncing data: When your phone is syncing with the cloud, email, or other accounts, it can become warm.
  • In direct sunlight: The phone’s body absorbs heat from the environment and this increases when exposed to sunlight.
  • Using the mobile hotspot feature.
  • During charging.

Solutions To Resolve The Issue

Modern Android smartphones such as the Galaxy S24 analyze usage patterns to optimize performance and battery life. If your phone is new, it is in the learning phase. While it recognize your usage behavior patterns, the phone may run hotter than usual. You can check the state of this by:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery and device care.
  2. Check if the heading says “Learning usage patterns.” If it does, give the phone up to a week or two to complete this process.
  3. If possible, avoid intensive tasks such as gaming or multitasking during this period as it can disrupt the usage patterns.

Some apps run in background to keep their functions running (most of the time, these are real-time notifications and downloads). You can disable such apps or completely remove them from your phone.

  1. Open Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > Usage since last charge.
  2. Identify apps consuming battery while idle.
  3. Go back and tap on Background apps.
  4. To disable such apps, turn on “Put unused apps to sleep”. Your phone will then automatically do the job for you.

Adjusting these settings can help minimize heat generation during use.

  1. Lower the screen brightness:
  2. Turn off unused features:
    • Disable Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth when not in use.
    • Access these settings via the Quick Settings panel.
  3. Open Battery and device care in Settings and tap on “Optimize now” button to put unnecessary apps to sleep.

The following scenarios can lead to overheating. Avoid or minimize these situations:

  • Using the phone in direct sunlight.
  • Multitasking with power-intensive apps for extended periods.
  • Mobile hotspot feature.
  • Using the phone during charging.
  • Using incompatible USB cable and/or charger.
  • Using the device in areas with weak signal reception.
